But do you know the significance of “abhyanga snan”? Also acknowledged as a holy bath, “abhyanga snan” is a bathing ritual wherein everyone wakes up before sunrise and massages their entire body with scented oils. This is then followed by the application of ubtan, which is a mix of spices and herbs.

According to mythology, on Narak Chaturdasi or Naraka Chaudas, Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasur. So this day signifies the victory of good over evil, and the practice of “Abhyanga Snan” was started.
